El seis de enero se recuerda la visita de los magos de oriente que fueron a visitar al Señor Jesús para honrarle con presentes. Según el relato que nos da el evangelista Mateo, la visita de los magos tuvo lugar cuando el Señor Jesús tenía alrededor de dos años de haber nacido. Existen numerosas lecciones que podemos aprender del relato que nos da el evangelio. Pero destacaremos sólo algunas:
1. Los Magos, a pesar de que Dios les indicó a dónde debían ir, por alguna razón ellos dejaron de ver la estrella que los guiaba y llegaron a Jerusalén, en lugar de Belén. Fue sólo después de escuchar la profecía de que nacería en Belén, que se dirigieron a ese lugar, y entonces volvieron a ver la estrella que los guiaba. ¿Qué nos impide ver y seguir la dirección que Dios nos da constantemente?
2. Los errores traen consecuencias. Herodes, como consecuencia de haber sido alertado del nacimiento del Salvador, ordenó la matanza de los niños, recordada hoy en día como el “Día de los inocentes.” Pidamos a Dios sabiduría para que podamos actuar como es correcto y que nos libre de pecar contra Él.
3. Es posible volver a encontrar la dirección de Dios. Los magos, una vez que se dirigieron a Belén, volvieron a mirar la estrella que los guiaba y se regocijaron con grande gozo. Dios tiene muchas formas de comunicarse con nosotros, principalmente con su Santa Palabra, pero también utiliza la naturaleza, las circunstancias, las enfermedades, las alegrías, etc…
4. Todo aquel que tiene un encuentro con el Señor Jesucristo no vuelve a ser igual. Los magos, después de ver al Señor, fueron instruidos para que no volviesen por el mismo camino. Así que se fueron por un camino diferente. Del mismo modo, todo aquel que viene a Cristo Jesús y le presenta sus regalos, es decir su vida, recibirá instrucción de parte de Dios para que no vuelva a ser igual. La vida de todo ser humano que tiene un encuentro con el Señor Jesucristo tiene un antes y un después. Del mismo modo que decimos Antes y Después de Cristo para relatar sucesos históricos, también se puede decir de todo cristiano que nuestra historia se divide en un antes y un después de conocer a Cristo.
Dios nos guíe para que sigamos su dirección este 2023.
We Have Seen His Star. Matthew 2:1-12.
On January 6th we remember the visit of the wise men from the East who went to visit the Lord Jesus to honor him with presents. According to the account given by the gospel of Matthew, the visit took place when the Lord Jesus was about two years old. There are numerous lessons we can learn from the account given in the gospel but I will highlight only four:
The wise men, although God indicated them where to go, for some reason they stopped seeing the star which guided them and arrived in Jerusalem instead of Bethlehem. It was only after they heard the prophecy that he would be born in Bethlehem they went there. It was then when they saw the star again giving them guidance. The question is, what prevents us from seeing and following God´s constant direction?
Mistakes have consequences. Herod, as consequence of being alerted about the birth of the Savior, ordered the killing of the babies, remembered on December 28th as the “Day of the Innocents.” Let´s ask God for wisdom so that we may act according to His will and to deliver us from all evil, that we may not sin against Him.
It is possible to find God´s direction again. The wise men, once they directed their steps toward Bethlehem, saw again the star guiding them and were filled with great joy. God has many ways to communicate His will to us, primarily thru His Word but He also uses nature, circumstances, illnesses, happiness, etc. Don´t lose hope nor stay defeated; look for God´s direction to lead you again.
Whoever has an encounter with the Lord Jesus is never the same. The wise men, after seeing the Lord, were instructed to not go back the same way. Therefore, they took a different route. In the same way, everyone who comes to Christ and presents to him his gifts, that is to say, his life, will receive instruction from God as to how to be different. The life of everyone who has an encounter with Jesus has a turning point, a before and an after Jesus. The same way that we relate facts before and after Death, the history of our lives is divided by the time before knowing Jesus and after knowing Him.
